They don't look anything like the actors. That's how much I care.
This scribble was spawned from a conversation one of my sis-in-laws and I were having concerning what Peter Jackson did to destroy the Lord of the Rings, which we both read and loved long before the movies happened.
Now don't get us wrong, we both love the movies, but there are changes that really really really irked us. Don't even get me started on Arwen vs. Eowyn! I mean, c'mon, Mr. Jackson! There's a REASON Tolkein banished Arwen to the Indexes: she just wasn't important to the plot! So why focus on her and constantly ignore the woman who totally cleans house which is Eowyn!!!
*Ahem* I said I wasn't going to get started on that...
So we both agreed that this part was, by far, the WORST part of all 3 movies, and was the stupidest thing Peter Jackson ever did in his whole life. Sam and Frodo are inseperable, and that's just the way it was meant to be. Sam and Frodo pretty much have the strongest friendship in the history of fictional friendships, and that's part of what makes the story so epic! Why the heck do movie directors think we fans want to see the characters we love so much completely changed into ... characters we don't like very much? Frodo would NEVER tell Sam to go home, and he would NEVER trust Gollum! He sympathized with Gollum, yes, but never trusted him.
This is what's uncanny. When I was reading the books, I skimmed the "Aragorn" sections, because all I wanted to read about was "WHAT'S HAPPENING TO SAM AND FRODO?!?!?!" because thier half of the story was so intense and they were so cool about it. And when I watch movie, and I skip all the Sam and Frodo parts so I can watch the "Aragorn" parts. That's how badly Jackson murdered Frodo. Frodo was SO hardcore in the books, and he was a serious wanny-weakling in the movies.
OMG! Eowyn was my absolute favorite part of the books. I would read the bit where she and Faramir heal together over and over again (and me squealing when the scene showed up in the extended edition). She kicked major ass and I was so happy when she finally got over Aragorn.
I remember reading that Tolkein was forced to write Arwen in there. I mean, honestly, all she does is sit on a pillow.
I did actually appreciate the "strong woman" aspect in the movies, but it took away a bit of Eowyn's worth.
Love the picture. And you're the first person I've met besides me who isn't such a fan of the enormous Aragorn/Arwen stuff in the movies... so that's pretty awesome.
Total agreement on the Arwen vs Eowyn. Eowyn rocks Frodo pissed me off in the movie. Finally I find someone who agrees with me. Most people are too swallowed up in his deep blue eyes to critisize any part that he plays.
And, honestly, I didn't mind that change so much, even though I have those books memorized XD I've been reading them since the third grade. But I'm also kind of a film student, so I looked at it as probably not a big deal, mainly because things have to be changed when the medium changes. Like the part with Faramir- in the books, there's really no temptation for the Ring on his part. He's already decided that he's not going to take it, and he doesn't, and that's the end of it. But in a movie, it doesn't read very well- no tension and all.
I think they built up the (very temporary, I might add) split between Sam and Frodo well enough to make it plausible.
I also think it was important to make Arwen a more prominent part of the stories, so the audience really understands what Aragorn is fighting for, or giving up. If you never get to know her, then it's like, "Geez, Aragorn, who cares? Just dump her and groove on Eowyn, or whoever!" Or, "Oh, BIG DEAL, you have to give up your invisible girlfriend." I mean, they didn't have her fighting or anything. I was ok with it, really XD
ahahahahaa! I love this! I've never read the books myself. I own them...tried to read fellowship...didn't work out. However I have seen the movies and I just hated when Frodo was pushing Sam away and trusting the little schizophrenic Gollum.

I think there's a difference between ditzy and dumb. Dumb is just not knowing. Ditzy is having the courage to ask.
